AI+ Instructional Design Workbook
Practice companion to AI+ Instructional Design
Practice companion to T3-19.
You underlined the storyboard template. Your next module skipped it anyway.
You read AI+ Instructional Design. The objectives hierarchy made sense, the storyboard template was ready to use — and the next programme you designed still started from a content list. This workbook closes that gap: 37 exercises across four weeks, built on the programmes you are actually designing, whether you work in corporate L&D, higher education, or vocational training. Built by an AI engineering firm for instructional designers who already know the learner is the point — the practice that makes backward design habitual.
- 37 structured exercises across four weeks — built on the programmes you are actually designing, in any sector
- Week 1 — mindset and learning architecture: the AI Opportunity Matrix, the Objectives Hierarchy, and a fix-the-objective drill
- Week 2 — designing and writing for learning: evidence-based strategies, the Explanation Architecture, and a fix-the-module drill
- Week 3 — storyboarding and media: production-ready specifications, branching scenarios, and the Media Selection Decision Framework
- Week 4 — review, iteration and inclusive design: the Two-Phase Review, cognitive load audits, and the AI Safety Checklist
Any professional whose primary work involves the systematic design of learning experiences at programme or module level — corporate L&D instructional designers and learning experience designers, e-learning developers who design as well as build, curriculum designers in education and professional training, L&D professionals whose role spans design as well as delivery, and subject matter experts who have been asked to turn their knowledge into training — who has read (or is working through) AI+ Instructional Design (T3-19) and wants structured, progressive practice applying the full design cycle to their own real programmes, whatever sector they work in.
Also for:An instructional designer in a CPD or L&D cohort using this workbook alongside a structured T3-19 reading programme; a head of L&D or learning design team running a team practice arc; a curriculum lead or staff developer using the workbook as a facilitated cross-sector workshop resource.
- Map a real design workload onto the AI Opportunity Matrix and the Augmentation Ladder, and write a terminal objective and enabling objectives for a real learning programme using Bloom's Taxonomy — including correctly diagnosing why a supplied terminal objective is content-first rather than performance-first and rewriting it into a proper performance-based objective with enabling objectives
- Apply at least two evidence-based instructional strategies (worked examples, scenario-based learning, spaced practice, elaborative interrogation, dual coding) to real learning content, and write instructional explanations, analogies, and worked examples using the Explanation Architecture, verified against TRUST — including correctly redesigning a supplied content-delivery-only module into a strategy-based design
- Draft a design-ready storyboard or session blueprint for a real learning unit, design an interaction or branching scenario, build a rapid prototype, and apply the Media Selection Decision Framework to select and justify delivery media for a real programme
- Run a structured two-phase review and a rapid prototype pilot on real design work, apply the TRUST QA checklist to AI-generated content, audit cognitive load and cultural assumptions in real materials, adapt content for multilingual learners, and apply the AI Safety Checklist to a real design brief involving learner data, SME confidential content, or organisational intellectual property
